With its balanced production portfolio, we represent a key pillar of reliability of electricity supply in Slovenia, provision of stability of the functioning of the electricity system and achieving Slovenia’s objectives in the field of renewable sources of energy. We have the production capacity of 1,988 MW of installed power at our disposal.
PRODUCTION CAPACITY OF THE HSE GROUP
We have the production capacity of 1,988 MW of installed power at our disposal. This includes 587 MW in systemic hydro power plants, 4 MW in small hydro power plants and 1 MW in solar power plants operated by Dravske Elektrarne Maribor. Soške Elektrarne Nova Gorica operates with 136 MW in systemic hydro power plants, 185 MW in the Avče Pumped Storage Plant and 19 MW in small hydro power plants. The two generators of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant have a combined power of 844 MW, and the two gas turbines a combined power of 84 MW. HSE -Energetska Družba Trbovlje has two gas-powered units with a combined power of 58 MW. Also contributing to the combined power are Hydro Power Plants on the Lower Sava, where HSE has a 49% stake or 75 MW.
Our power plants on the rivers Drava and Soča and in Šoštanj annually produce around 7.5 terawatt hours of electricity, which represents more than a 60% share in the production of electricity in Slovenia and almost an 80% share in the structure of production of electricity from renewable sources. Besides that, we have our own primary source of energy – lignite. Around 3.5 million tonnes of coal used for the production of electricity and heating energy gets extracted annually from the modern, underground coal mine in Velenje. Finally, we are the only producer which is able to provide large-scale primary and secondary regulation in Slovenia.
